Book Review
Almost over a year ago I came across a book called unloveable by author sherry gammon. It was a story that stuck with me, and I amazon/good reads stalked to see when book 2 was coming. Well it finally came and once again mrs. gammon has delivered another Great action packed love story.
For those who haven't read book 1 unloveable stop reading this review now. Go to your nearest kindle/nook site and get started. Please don't wait for the movie to come out.... Oh sorry did I forget to mention book 1 is being turned into a movie....YUP it is. Kudos to you mrs. Gammon on that amazing achievement!
Well book 2 picks up were book one ended In a way, so let's recap. The dreser brothers have just tried to murder Maggie and seth. They meet there fate (thank goodness). Seth and Maggie are together/engaged. Booker is still moody and head of the MET squad on a mission to free the streets of drugs. Cole is still clumsy and one of the best ER docs in the city. Point being the three musketeers are still alive, breathing and going strong.
Well this book is cole's story. Cole is still Mr. Dependent And His life revolves around the hospital. He has reached a point in his life he wants more. Well he just may make that dream come true when in to his office walks lilah. Cole is awed by her beauty but leave it to a genius with a hobby of statistics to kill the dream before it begins. Ya he was hung up on the age difference. Oh cole if you only knew???
Lilah has always been haunted by her family name, DRESER. Yup as in the psycho/drug dealing/killing Dreser family. Lilah has been in hiding from her father until now. To finally get her freedom from her family she accepts a final mission from her father. Return to port fare and gather intel on the MET squad responsible for the death of her brothers. Equipped with a disguise, a interior design degree and hardly no money she sets out on her mission. As fate would have it her design skills place her right in the path of none other than MR. MET himself, booker. Thinking she this will be easier than she expected, booker hires her for an outside contracting job at a local hospital to redecorated his best friends office. What the heck right, she could use the extra cash.
Well beyond all the clutter of that hospital office sat the most gorgeous man she had ever laid eyes on,Dr. COLE. This brief meeting between these two, lets just say the chemistry was obviously in the air even booker felt/saw it for goodness sake, lol. As time passed and the more time lilah spent with cole on this project, the deeper her feelings got. Also to make matters worse cole was a package deal his two best friends (seth and booker) and Maggie also grew on her.
Equipped with only the knowledge of her fathers story for revenge against these people she had come to care about, her gut told her something wasn't right! Always go with the gut girl. The more her and Coles relationship blossomed the more her inner demons were at bay also. There were moments in this book my Heart broke for lilah. No matter how hard she tried to get away from her past/family name it would always haunt her.
"Stop it Alan or I'm telling daddy. I grabbed why remained if my dress and held it against me shaking violently. Alan twisted his meaty fingers around the fabric ad jerked, shredding the dress completely. He laughed, tossing it aside. I folded my hands over my Chet and backed up as he pulled his pedal handled knife out.
You tell dad or your mom, princess, and ill do to you what Idid to that stupid bird of yours.
My mind jumped to my beautiful scarlet macaw, lying dead in the grass. A long jagged gash up the middle, it's feathers scattered across the lawn. Daddy said a cat had gotten it. He was Wrong.
Alan stomped over me. Yeah you remember why I did to that stupid bird. I can promise you, princess, your mommy will look even worse. He took his knife and flipped some bangs from my forehead, the ivy steel blade skimming across my brow.
Please don't hurt my mommy, I pleaded, my eye pinched shut. Please don't Alan. Please."--lilah and Alan
As I was saying my heart broke for lilah. Deep down beneath everything she was still a scared little girl. Well of course the honey moon period of her and Coles relationship had to be rocked at some point. Who do we have to thank for this discovery? None other than Mr. Met himself, Booker. Once cole found out the truth my heart broke for both him and lilah. They both had finally found love but it was built around so many lies.
I already loved Coles character from book one, but I fell in love with him all over again. He is genuinely a PRINCE CHARMING! Despite the heartbreak lilah caused him he never gave up on her. In all honesty she never gave up on him either. During this part of the book when the betrayal was fresh, their feelings/emotions could be summed up best by the song just a fool by christina aguilera and Blake shelton. For your listening purposes check out the link below lol. I love this song!

Oh boy did the words of this song ever ring so true to the emotional status of cole and lilah (Heart breaking).
(Christina)
Another shot of whiskey please bartender
Keep it coming till I don’t remember at all
How bad it hurts when you’re gone (na na na)
Turn the music up a little bit louder
Just gotta get past the midnight hour (uh huh)
Maybe tomorrow it won’t
Be
This
Hard
Who am I kidding
I know what I’m missing
You
I had my heart set on you
But nothing else hurts like you do
Who knew that love was so cruel (Yeah yeah yeah)
And I
Waited and waited so long
For someone who’ll never come home
It’s my fault to think you’ll be true (Yeah yeah)
I’m just a fool (Yeah)
(Blake Shelton)
I said that I don’t care
I’d walk away whatever
And I tell myself we were bad together (Uh huh)
But that’s just me trying to move on
With
Out
You
(Together)
But who am I kidding
I know what I’m missing
Hey
I had my heart set on you
But nothing else hurts like you do
Who knew that love was so cruel(Yeah yeah yeah)
And I
Waited and waited so long
For someone who’ll never come home
It’s my fault to think you’ll be true (Yeah yeah)
I’m just a fool
Well when a girl has finally found her PRINCE CHARMING there has to be a happy ending right? Cole and the rest of the family after thought finally believe lilahs story. But earning everyone trust again is something she has to work hard for especially with Booker. As the drama in this book continues to play out lilah's fear that her father will hurt the people she loves takes hold of her almost to the point of no return. If you ever wondered how much she loved cole, smh... Lets just say enough to give up her own life with a gun and single bullet.
The secondary characters in this book I had a love/hate relationship with. Lilahs father I hated this man for all the years of mental abuse he put his daughter through her whole life. At moments due to his illness I actually felt sorry for him but then thoughts of him trying to sell his grandchild on the black market would fuel my anger again. My favorite was birdie. This was lilahs second MOM. The woman who protected her from the evils of her family especially her father. They always say a mother knows best for their child. Years ago birdie made a huge decision concerning lilahs life for her in the hopes of protecting her until the time was right. I can honestly say when this discovery was revealed at the end my heart swelled and broke at the same time.
I loved this book. I can actually continue talking about it forever. As a fan of this series, I will say its a different read than book 1. This book still had plenty of action/drama but it was more of an emotional read for me. Cole/lilahs story was a beautiful one. It was one of betrayal, heartbreak, forgiveness and new beginnings.
Great job mrs. Gammon. I can't wait for book 3.
Book rating: 5/stars A
Cheers,
