More & The Guardians by TM Franklin Book Review

Tuesday, October 1, 2013

Ava Michaels used to think she was special.

As a child, she fantasized about having magical powers . . . making things happen. But Ava grew up and eventually accepted the fact that her childish dreams were just that, and maybe a normal life wasn't so bad after all.

Now a young college student, Ava meets Caleb Foster, a brilliant and mysterious man who’s supposed to help her pass Physics, but in reality has another mission in mind. What he shows Ava challenges her view of the world, shaking it to its very core.

Because Caleb isn't quite what he seems. In fact, he's not entirely human, and he's not the only one.

Together, the duo faces a threat from an ancient race bound to protect humans, but only after protecting their own secrets—secrets they fear Ava may expose. Fighting to survive, Ava soon learns she's not actually normal . . . she's not even just special.

She's a little bit more.

T.M. Franklin started out her career writing non-fiction in a television newsroom. Graduating with a B.A. in Communications specializing in broadcast journalism and production, she worked for nine years as a major market television news producer, and garnered two regional Emmy Awards, before she resigned to be a full-time mom and part-time freelance writer. After writing and unsuccessfully querying a novel that she now admits, “is not that great,” she decided to follow the advice of one of the agents who turned her down—write some more and get better at it. Her first published novel, MORE, was born during National Novel Writing month, a challenge to write a novel in thirty days.

She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, Mike, is mom to two boys, Justin and Ryan, and has an enormous black dog named Rocky who’s always lying nearby while she’s writing. Whether he’s soothed by the clicking of the computer keys or just waiting for someone to rub his belly is up for debate.

I came across author TM franklins through net galley. Net galley I owe you a huge thank you. I loved this book. I was on a paranormal kick and was in search of a new book when I saw more in the catalog.  Super hot college physics tutor/member of the FIRST RACE anyone??? Yes MEEEEEE!!!

Ok getting back on track.... This is Ava's story of how her nightmare becomes a reality. Ava has always been a strange/weird girl fighting to be normal in a sense. When she was younger she always believed she was different. She believed she could make things happen just by using her mind but the older she got this concept just became weird. Oh teenagers!

Well now all grown up and in college, the nightmares are still happenings and she's failing physics to make matters worse. Oh but to the rescue non other than Caleb foster. Super smart hottie that's a part of the first race. The first race is seriously like a secret society thats objective is to live in secret while protecting humanity. For all of us true romantics please don't think that caleb/Ava's meeting was fate. Nope he was assigned to her because she showed potential over the years to be MORE!  If the warning/danger bells are going off by now trust me they should be!

I loved ava and Caleb's characters in this one. In the beginning I was skeptical if Ava was strong enough to survive what lay ahead of her but in the end she was a force to be reckoned with. Caleb from the opening pages hit me as that sweetheart type of a guy. I grew to love him even more as the story progressed because he began to question everything he was taught and wanted to not only protect ava from evil that lurked but even from his own people.  Their journey together was a bitter sweet one. The friendship they had grew into chemistry that was great/refreshing to read.

This book was a great surprise. I really enjoyed it. Great job Mrs. franklin. I honestly didn't want this story to stop. I can't wait to dive into book 2.

Cheers,
Dr. Books

**************************************************************************************************************************

It’s not every day a girl discovers she’s not entirely human and unlocks hidden powers strong enough to make even the First Race take notice. Then again, Ava Michaels is no ordinary girl.

Now, the Race’s Ruling Council wants her under their control, and that’s just the beginning of her problems. Her boyfriend, Caleb Foster, has disappeared—accused of betraying the Race—and Ava herself is implicated in a crime she didn’t commit.

Clearing their names will mean uncovering a web of deceit and intrigue with Ava woven right in the center. To unravel the strands, she joins forces with some unlikely allies; a Protector who once haunted her nightmares, a young girl with secrets as unexpected as Ava’s, and a group of rebel Guardians who have their own fight against the Council.

Together they stand in a battle to find the truth, bring Caleb home, and secure Ava’s freedom—not to mention save her life.

Holy smokes if I thought book one was good, this one was just as great!

**if you haven't read book 1 please stop reading this review now and go to your local book site and get started. **

This book picks up were book 1 ended meaning all my favorite characters are back. Hells Yessssssss!  Ava and caleb are still together weathering this massive storm brewing with the council. BUT they have a secret weapon now, the support of the ROUGES.  Who is lead by none other than Caleb's father! I told you this one was even juicer!  This book gets deeper into the truth and secrets behind the council and the people who have come to be known as the rouges. Let me just say the more I learned about the truth from the supposed beginning, I experienced emotions like sad and pissed off just to name a few.

I want to go into so much more detail but I know I'm going to give something away. Mrs. Franklin didn't disappoint with this one. The continuation of this series exceeded my expectations GREATLY! I couldn't put this one down, the storyline literally didn't miss a beat.

All I have to say is ava is one bad a** full blood and with her boy toy by her side as well as the presence of Tiernan ( he grew on me in this book) this team is a force to be reckoned with. Again great job mrs. Franklin. I can't wait to read more from you soon!

Cheers,
Dr. Books
