Darkness before dawn by Claire Contreras Book Review

Friday, June 7, 2013

Goodreads Description:
Is love ever enough?

Faced with obstacles she could have never imagined, Blake is brought to darkness and back by forces in her past she never knew existed.
Desperate to stay connected to the only thing he loves, Cole is forced to revisit his past and align himself with the people who knew about Blake’s disappearance.
Separation has forced both Blake and Cole to learn how to live under the worst circumstances, each of them alone in their own hell.

When they reunite, can they be the same two people they were before darkness swept upon them?
Told in separate points of view, Darkness Before Dawn is the continuation of Blake and Cole’s fight to make it to the light.

About Claire:

Claire Contreras graduated with her BA in Psychology from Florida International University. She lives in Miami, Florida with her husband, two little boys, and three dogs.

Her favorite past times are: daydreaming, writing, and reading.

She has been described as a random, sarcastic, crazy girl with no filter.

Life is short, and it’s more bitter than sweet, so she tries to smile as often as her face allows. She enjoys stories with happy endings, because life is full of way too many unhappy ones.

Book Review:

Holy cow!!! The suspense and a heck of a lot of questions Mrs. Contreras left me with at the end of TINLID lead me to assume my mind would be just as blown/jumbled in this book as well. But she didn't leave me hanging thank goodness!

This book picked up right were book 1 ended. Blake has been kidnapped and is confused as to why anyone would want to take her. She is mentally and physically broken. Her only refuge is escaping the reality of her situation by dreaming of Cole. Her kidnappers are cruel and evil. But as you read you get that Erie/gut feeling there is  something more going on here.  As usual my gut is always right! Trust me bathe time I made it to who and why the kidnappers were involved WTH/MOuth hanging open moment.

Out of all her kidnappers she makes a friend in hot bad boy Dean. Dean was an acommpliace to her kidnapping yes but he was also her protector in so many ways. Dean life was far from easy. When your born into a life of crime thats all you grow up knowing or atleast in deans case. however when it cameto blake this bad boy mobster had a soft spot! I loved his character.

More than Half way through the book the twists and turns become so much it made my head spin. I seriously was thinking of pulling out a piece of paper to write down who was related to who and in what capacity. Cole and Blake's lives are forever changed by the turn of events that happened so many years ago and recently.  Once the secrets and reasoning behind what happened came to light, I seriously had  WTH moment and was in shock. Despite life's circumstances Blake and cole's  love never shifted. Yes they struggled and after the truth was revealed they finally realized the void of family they were missing all these years they always had in each other!

This sequel answered all my questions from book one. I thought book one blew my mind but this one was just as intense. However book one is still my favorite. Great job mrs. Contreras.

Book rating: 4 stars/B

** I was provided an ARC for an honest review. **

Cheers,
Dr. Books
