Book Description:
A girl.
A coma.
A life she can't remember.
When Emma Walker wakes up in the hospital with no knowledge of how she got there, she learns that she's been in a coma for six months. Strangers show up and claim to be her parents, but she can't remember them. She can't remember anyone. Not her friends, not even her boyfriend. Even though she can't remember, everyone wants her to just pick up where she left off, but what she learns about the 'old her' makes her start to wish she'd never woken up. Her boyfriend breaks up with the new girl he's dating to be with her, her parents want her to start planning for college, her friends want their leader back, and her physical therapist with the hazel eyes keeps his distance to save his position at the hospital.
Will she ever feel like she recognizes the girl in the mirror?

Excerpt:
The next couple of weeks brought plenty of action and events. I focused harder on the therapy and tried to focus less on Mason. He seemed to be doing the same. I had renewed vigor, which led to stamina, which led to more workouts, which led to exhaustion, which led to tons of sleep, which led to healing, which led to me walking.
All.
By.
Myself.
This simple task, this simple thing that we all take for granted, that's so cute and monumental when a baby takes his first steps, but these first steps were so much more than that. Though I cried like a baby, I wasn't one. And though my mother cooed and fawned over me (because I had invited them that day to come because I just knew that day was going to be the day) I wasn't a toddler. I was me. I was finally getting a little piece of myself back. And though I tried so hard not to, my eyes drifted to the one person in the room that I knew would understand all this better than anyone else.
Mason's eyes were already on me from across the parallel walking bars. This time, I didn't shy away from his gaze. I knew that our terms were shaky, but so was I, and I needed the stability of my lifeline. As our gazes collided, I expected a smile and happiness, but I didn't expect the level of pride and utter joy to be so prominent. The man was bursting at the seams with it. It filled his face and the smile he wore was the beautiful one that made me feel like everything was going to be OK.
His lips parted and even in the loud room, I could still hear his breath. He said quietly, "You did it, Em." He moved forward and touched my arm. It was the first time he had touched me in weeks that had nothing to do with therapy. "I'm so proud of you."
As his fingers circled my elbow, and I tried not to shiver in his grasp, I asked softly, knowing the answer, "You didn't believe that I was going to walk again some day?"
"Of course I did." He smiled wider. "But today was the first time that you've ever believed it."
He was right. Having faith and having hope were not the same thing, and I was just now understanding that.

Book Review:
I am a huge fan of Mrs. Crane's work. The significance series....smh....sigh....I LOVE!
Needless to say when this book went live one clicking wasn't even second thought. Well let me start by saying I loved this book but as I read the thank you page in the end......I fell in love with it that much more. Many may not no (because I sure didn't) that while writing this book Mrs. Crane was diagnosed with a tumor in her head. So needless to say all the emotions I felt for the lead character Emma became that much stronger.
This is Emma's story of a second chance. Emma was victim to a hit and run accident that left her in a Coma for 6 months. When she awakes she doesn't remember anyone or even herself. Through long hours of rehab she starts to get her life back and it helps that the therapist helping her is HOT.
Meet Mason...Mr. Dreamboat.... This man is caring, loving, sensitive and not to mention covered in tattoos hot. Yup pretty perfect. The chemistry between him and Emma was great. From the time she woke up there was a connection between them. Do you believe in fate? No matter what he never pushed her even when he could have been selfish. He wanted to let her find her own way and boy did she ever.
I loved Emma's character. Her path of self discovery was not a pretty one to say the Least. The girl she was then (think mean girls x10) was not someone she could look at in the mirror everyday and be proud of. However the woman she was now was stronger and had a second chance on life. Not to be wasted!
The secondary characters in this book were key because they gave us glimpses into Emma's life before the accident and were important in putting the pieces of that night back together. Again think mean girls the movie regarding her friends. Her ex boyfriend was a complete tool. Her parents I actually felt sorry for them at certain moments in the book because they realized they never truly knew their daughter.
This book was one of self discovery, second chances, new friendships and FATE. However some situations did leave me with questions? Like who is Mariah? Lol just read the book!
Great job Mrs. Crane. You are in my prayers and loved!
Ill leave you with Emma's song. Nobody else could be you by Jason reeves

What would you do if you wake up one day and your whole life changed? In Wide Awake we meet Emma who wakes up from a coma after 6 months. She was in a hit and run and left bleeding on the road. Emma cannot remember anything about her life, not even her parents. She soon starts realizing how dofferent she is from the girl everyone describes.
"I'm a cheerleader?"
"Why yes," she answered gently. "You love it."
My grimace spread. "I can't imagine myself loving that. Or pink."
Emma cannot feed, wash, or do anything for herself at first and is forced to depend on others. In steps Mason, her physical therapist. He is the first person she saw when she wakes up so she already develops a connection with him. Mason of course is hot and cold so she is unsure. She is advised by her therapist to try and be the girl everyone says she was, this includes being with her forever boyfriend who is a but of a tool. She tries and just cannot do it! She can't imagine being the selfish person everyone says she was.
Once Emma gets back to school she cannot take it anymore and decides to just be her, and that includes being with Mason! Andy (the high school boyfriend) does not want to loose her. Things start happening and secrets come out; I was shocked to say the least! A tragedy happens and it leaves you wondering how much can one person take? Will it all be too much, or will she find love and herself? We all come to a point in our lives when we figure out who we are and where are lives are going. Everyone wants to be happy!
I am actually in awe after finish Wide Awake. It was such a Beautiful read! I was a roller coaster of emotions while reading it. I love to read books like this that make you think about your life and the things you take for granted. What would you change about yourself if you were given a second chance, a clean slate?
Cheers,
Erika
