Breaking Glass by Lisa Amowitz Book Review

I

Blurb:

On the night seventeen-year-old Jeremy Glass winds up in the hospital with a broken leg and a blood alcohol level well above the legal limit, his secret crush, Susannah, disappears. When he begins receiving messages from her from beyond the grave, he's not sure whether they're real or if he's losing his grip on reality. Clue by clue, he gets closer to unraveling the mystery, and soon realizes he must discover the truth or become the next victim himself.

Meet Lisa:
Lisa Amowitz is an artist and graphic designer by trade, but writing
has always been a deep and abiding passion. As a mom of an actual
teen, she's not just writing YA; she's living it. Lisa is represented by Victoria Marini of Gelfman Schneider.

She can be found online at: http://lisa-amowitzya.blogspot.com/

Now (November 17th)

Outside the dinner theater lobby, the glow of street lamps barely penetrates the thick mist that shrouds the parking lot. It’s the kind of night that Jack the Ripper might have prowled the cobblestoned streets of London searching for victims.

In the lobby, fresh from the standing ovation he’s received as Tony in our production of West Side Story, my best friend Ryan Morgan is surrounded by a crush of people. For two weeks running, his performance has been drawing crowds from all over Westchester County.

I glance around furtively, but no one notices the lighting guy. Truth is, my heart’s not in theater. I’m only working weekends to pad my college applications, and my wallet. So, I take a minute to study the latest text from Susannah Durban, Ryan’s girlfriend of three years. Heat creeps into my cheeks.

For the past year, Susannah’s been inexplicably texting me with YouTube links to her haunt- ing stop-action animations. I watch her body drift across the screen draped with filmy gauze, her dark bronze hair and golden skin amid floating leaves, graveyards, ballet dancers, Indian goddesses, and scattered words in Hebrew and English, most of which make no sense.

But other than telling me the link is private and to keep it our little secret, Susannah never mentions them when I see her. Neither do I.

Yet if I could dive into my iPhone and swim beside her, an exotic fish in her private world, I would do it and never look back.

When I received my ARC of this book in the mail from spencer hill press I was so excited. This book had been getting a lot of buzz on goodreads and I was in the mood for a great suspense/thriller.

This is the story of Jeremy glass a young teenage alcoholic whose life forever changed after one crazy night with his BFF and the girl of his dreams. Jermey had been in love with Susannah forever but he was in the friend zone, the lucky man to have her heart was his BFF Ryan.  Ok I had a love hate relationship with Ryan in this book. For one he was a cheating dog but as the story progressed his life was not what it appeared to be.

The night that changed everything left Susannah missing, Jeremy losing a leg, Ryan being blamed by his bff for murder and the creepiest/crazy turn of events were set off like a tornado in this small town. Omg you talk about secrets revealed...Geez. This group of friends had some serious dirt on each other but these deep dark secrets lead all the way back to their families. The person leading the   Way of uncovering this hidden truth is none other than Susannah herself. If you now thinking WTH, you should be she's haunting Jeremy from the grave. Yes creepy I Know!

With all the craziness going on in this book mrs. Amowitz was still able to give the reader glimpses into the lives of all characters involved.  She even gave me some puppy love moments with Jeremy and his hot tutor marisa (I loved her character by the way). This story flowed so well, honestly there never was a dull moment. The ending of this book had me questioning am I cheering for the right team? Yup I had that gut feeling something was way off....always go with the guy people!

I really enjoyed this one by mrs. Amowitz. All I can say is the ending of this book will have you shouting WTH I knew it couldn't be......lol. Good job mrs. Amowitz!

Cheers,
Dr. Books
