A note about this book: Donners of the Dead is set in 1851 – couples were often thrust into marriage together with short courtships, racism was widespread and not overly frowned upon, and women had little to no rights. What wouldn't fly in today's day and age was unfortunately the norm back then - it is worth keeping that in mind when reading this book.

The year is 1851 and pioneers in search of California gold are still afraid to travel on the same route as the tragic Donner party did years before. What they find deep in the dangerous snow-covered terrain is a terrifying consequence of cannibalism, giving new meaning to the term “monster.” While the search party is slowly picked off, one by one, Eve must learn to trust Jake, who harbors more than a few secrets of his own, in order to survive and prevent the monstrosities from reaching civilization.

I a huge karina Halle fan. When I found out she was coming out with a zombie/western book I was sold. Let me just say I'm not a walking dead fan but have so many friends that are, so if you are download this book ASAP!
This is a story of survival. Remember those scary Halloween stories you use to hear as kids well mrs. Halle took that creepiness and gave her readers one sacry/exciting/loveable story. Even for those of us who aren't usually zombie fans.
Eve is half Native American and living on her aunt/uncles ranch. Her mother has lost her mind and in today's world think institutionalized. A group of men come for her help with tracking a missing family, the Donners. Well everyone knows the story at least the part where people have looked and not returned. Not left with much of a choice, eve sets out to do the impossible but it helps she has some eye candy to look at. Hello jake McGraw ,the hot sexy gun slinging cowboy. He has a distaste for Indians but he is drawn to eve. Their interaction is funny and as the chemistry between them builds it becomes Down right sexy at times. Mrs. Halle gave her readers a zombie horror story that kept getting scarier and scarier with the turn of each page. She did an awesome job of giving just enough spice in the love department and overshadowing the horror factor. Considering this was my first go at a zombie book, I LOVED IT!
