Shooting Scars By Karina Halle Book Review

Thursday, August 15, 2013

Sometimes the right choice can be the deadliest.

When Ellie Watt made the ultimate sacrifice for Camden McQueen, she never thought it would be easy. But walking away with her ex-lover, Javier Bernal, in order to ensure Camden’s safety has brought a whole new set of dangers. With Javier’s plans for Ellie growing more secretive by the moment, Ellie must find a way to stay ahead of the game before her past swallows her whole.

Meanwhile, Camden’s new life is short-lived. Fueled by revenge and pursued by authorities, he teams up with an unlikely partner in order to save Ellie. But as Camden toes the line between love and retribution, he realizes that in order to get back the woman he loves, he may have to lose himself in the process. He might just turn into the very man he’s hunting.

Told in dual POV from Camden and Ellie.

Karina is represented by Scott Waxman of the Waxman Leavell Literary Agency

The daughter of a Norwegian Viking and a Finnish Moomin, Karina Halle grew up in Vancouver, Canada with trolls and eternal darkness on the brain. This soon turned into a love of all things that go bump in the night and a rather sadistic appreciation for freaking people out. Like many of the flawed characters she writes, Karina never knew where to find herself and has dabbled in acting, make-up artistry, film production, screenwriting, photography, travel writing and music journalism. She eventually found herself in the pages of the very novels she wrote (if only she had looked there to begin with).

Karina holds a screenwriting degree from Vancouver Film School and a Bachelor of Journalism from TRU. Her travel writing, music reviews/interviews and photography have appeared in publications such as Consequence of Sound, Mxdwn and GoNomad Travel Guides. She currently lives on an island on the coast of British Columbia where she's preparing for the zombie apocalypse with her fiance and rescue pup.

Karina Halle oh karina Halle. Geez you talk about a book that will have your head spinning. This is my third book by mrs. Halle and once again she doesn't disappoint. It's official I'm awarding her the title of best drama filled screwed up love stories ever! If you haven't read any of her books you are missing out seriously.

This is the sequel to her book sins and needles. Ill start by saying, yes I am team Javier...does this make me a weird/crazy person? Well if you ask the Boyfriend (BD) he will say absolutely to the weird....ok ok he may even throw in the occasional crazy but regardless this blogger is hands down in love with this drug lord. Some may even throw the term psycho in the mix to describe Javier but what can I say Mrs. Halle's talent never ceases to amaze me.

This story was told from both Ellie and Camden's POV which was great. Please note from the opening pages expect the unexpected! I'm still in shock by some of the events that occurred in this one.  This story starts by Ellie walking away from Camden into the arms of the man that broke her heart. After a shocking revelation that Camden's ex is a stone cold ----- ( you fill in the blank) he's even more determined to find Ellie and save her from Javier. She also may even possibly need saving from herself. As Camden's character developed throughout this story I was really impressed. Honestly I was a little skeptical of him holding his own in this underground world of drugs and murder for higher. It's amazing the damage and pain one can cause with a tattoo gun!

At moments in this book I felt sorry for Ellie. Mrs. Halle gave us a little and I'm emphasize a little softer side of Ellie in this one. Yes she's still a kick ass  chick with a lot of attitude but she is a woman with a broken heart. Ellie's tug of war moments with her feelings forward Javier had me on the fence at moments with her.

This was a great continuation to this series. Mrs. Halle you have once again out done yourself. You definitely know how to bring a reader to the dark side! Again you have officially won the title of best drama filled screwed up love stories ever from this blogger.

Guys read this series! I can't recommend it enough!  I need book 3 ASAP!

Cheers,
Dr.Books
