The sweetest game by J. Sterling Book Review

Wednesday, January 1, 2014

This is the third (and final) installment in Jack & Cassie's story!

“It’s one hell of a sledgehammer to the chest when your baseball career comes to an end. It’s like you finally realize that baseball never loved you back. All the sleepless nights, the hours spent at the gym trying to stay fit, the conditioning, the training, the mental preparation, the holiday’s missed, the birthday’s passed, the memories you didn’t get to make with your family…all for what? It’s not like baseball lost any sleep over you. She didn’t stay awake for nights on end trying to figure out how to make you a better player. She didn’t care. Baseball’s a business. A sport. A game. And as much as my entire life has been wrapped up in it, it’s time to let it go.”
- Jack Carter

I got fired from my last job. It's true. I know you're sitting there thinking "Jenn, how could anyone in their right mind fire someone as amazing and awesome as you???" And i'd love to give you a good reason, but the truth is- being this awesome is clearly very scary to other less awesome people.

So I said screw them and started writing my first book. And you know what I realized? Writing books that mean something to me is a million times better than working for my ass off for someone who doesn't really care about anything other than the bottom line.

My soul feels more satisfied.
My heart, more full.

So thank you for reading, loving and recommending the stories I write.
I appreciate it more than you know. :)

So, I really thought J. Sterling was going to end Jack and Cassie's story with book 2 but when she announced the 3rd and final story, I was beyond excited. The Sweetest Game starts out where book 2 ended off with their wedding. Perfect beginning because it shows them really starting to begin their life together as a married couple. Jack is back with a new season and by chapter 3 you are already at the edge of your seat and saying "crap, what is going to happen next?" total twist in the story and something that I never saw coming. I freaking cried because Jack and Cassie has been through so much together and then this. I could understand how Jack felt but jeez I wanted to slap him around a few times and I love how strong of a person Cassie is and her love for Jack.

Also, we get the story of Jack's brother Dean.. you remember him right? And then you have Cassie's best friend Melissa. So you see how Dean and Melissa's relationship progresses and I couldn't have asked for a better ending with them.

I don't want to give anything away so you HAVE to read this! So much happens throughout this book it'll keep you addicted to beginning to end as I read it in one sitting. Towards the end, there are pretty big time gaps that I wish didn't happened but I can understand why. Although Cassie and Jack's story is over, they will forever live on, the story just felt that complete.

Also, not to give anything away, but I hope we get to see something down the road from an individual who I'm not going to mention :) Curious huh?

Cheers,
Holly
