I have been beside myself trying to think of how to begin this review. Words cannot describe the feelings I had while reading this. I was so overwhelmed with emotions throughout this book. Amazing doesn't even begin to describe it!! I Loved Carey Heywood's HIM but Better is really an appropriate name. After having the honor of reading her work, I will buy and read anything from her. There are authors who write a good book, but then their are authors who write a great book that leaves an imprint on your soul, Carey Heywood is the latter.
Shortly after Better begins Aubrey has to say goodbye to her aunt/best friend. I was crying so hard I had to put the book down for a bit. The build up and the emotions were so overwhelming. You know it's going to happen but your heart can never really be prepared. Aubrey takes it pretty hard and then learns her aunt wanted her to take the trip they talked about doing when she got better. Her parents don't want her traveling the world alone so a co-worker of her father has a son who has traveled many times that is going with her.
At first Aubrey is pretty bitter that he is going and can't stand his demeanor. This trip is about letting go, living life, finding yourself, and love. Yes it's a heart wrenching story bit has a love story intertwined also. After more time together the chemistry just grows. Aubrey is torn on how she feels and feels guilty for focusing on her feelings when it's her aunts trip. She spent the last few years caring for her after giving up Yale, now she needs to decide what SHE wants.
If there is one book you have to read even if you never read again it is this. Yes the story was amazing and I cannot think of one negative aspect, but the writing was so well done and everything flowed perfectly. Nothing was rushed and it all seemed so genuine and real.
