Dr. Angeline Hemming is a beautiful, sassy, no-nonsense type of girl who has risen from a difficult past to become one of Chicago’s most successful and respected criminal profilers. In exchange for free commercials to promote her favorite charitable causes, Angel answers calls and gives relationship advice on a Friday night radio program.
Alexander Avery is a gorgeous and successful corporate genius who doesn’t believe in love. When his girlfriend-of-convenience calls into Angel’s program, he is furious with the show’s host who doles out (what he considers) blind advice, without knowing all the facts… and he decides to give her a piece of his mind, and his side of the story!
When Angel informs Alex he’s the one in need of a much-deserved lesson, all hell breaks loose as these two type-A personalities battle it out for control over minds and hearts, and yes, in bed. Not only are they fighting each other at every turn, but they are also struggling to uphold the convictions they each live by.
It’s unclear who is stronger, but both must discover that to get what they desperately want, they may have to give a little… or a lot.
Anyone who knows me knows I am a HUGE fan of Kahlen Aymes. I have read and reviewed all 3 books in her Remembrance Trilogy and that began my crush on her. Not only are her stories unique, but she is easily one the best writters I have ever read. Once you have a hit, its a gamble on whether or not the rest of there books will grab you as the first one did. Many times the stories start blending together and it all sounds the same... Angel After Dark is VERY different from her other books but holy hell was it good!!!
We start by meeting Angel who is stressing about an upcoming case that isn't really going the way she wants it. By day she is a well respected criminal profiler and by night (once a week) she is the no bullshit giving radio host that helps with relationship questions. One of her callers talks about her long time boyfriend who wont commit and uses her just for sex. Her advice? Leave him! Well now in comes Alex Avery the "boyfriend" of the caller. He doesn't believe in love and is only with women as a convenience, but makes his intentions known all along. He is glad to finally be done with Whitney, but furious that this radio host has the nerve to give advice on a situation she only knows half of the story.
Well this is the bomb that explodes Angel and Alex into each other's worlds. The banter back and forth and the angst of wanting to be together but fighting it at every turn is mouth watering and body combusting. You get to strong headed people with some steam and it makes fireworks!!! This isn't instalove, but a fight to explore the newness and not lose who you are. They have a connection right away but the cat chase mouse is always fun and amusing.
The drama isn't all about their relationship, Alex and Angel get some pretty direct messages that things are more complicated then they think. This isn't the first time Angel is threatened for her work, but Alex takes it much more serious than her. What he finds means things are bigger than either could imagine and he fears for her saftey. Angel will heal for no one, and her job means everything to her.
So while they grow closer and you see them opening up, there is more happening behind the scenes that the other does not know. I canNOT wait for the next book!!!!!!! This book has everything you could want in a story. LOVED IT!!! It does not end with this book, but it really isn't a cliffhanger either.
