When it rains by Lisa DeJong Book Review

One night changed my life forever.

Beau Bennett has been my best friend since I can remember. He was my first crush before everything came crashing down, and now he wants more, but it's more than I can give him. Things are different now. I wish I could tell him why, but I can't.

I haven’t told anyone.

I never knew how much I really needed him until the day he left for college, and I was completely alone.

Then one day, Asher Hunt rides into town with his dark, captivating eyes and cocky grin. He doesn't care who I used to be, he's simply breathing life into what’s left. People warn me to stay away from him, but he helps me forget the pain that has held me hostage for so long; something I thought was impossible before he walked into my life.

I’ve been hurt.

I’ve been saved.

And I’ve found hope.

I thought my story was written that night, but now I know it was only a new beginning. Until one secret turns my world upside down…

Again.

I had no expectations before I read When It Rains because I did not read any reviews for it beforehand. Boy was I in for a surprise. I'm not going to go into details because seriously you just have to read it and find out yourself. This is the type of story where everybody should read it just because. This is such a gut-wrenching, emotional, love story and yes it is a love triangle.

Kate's life is changed one night when she is raped by a guy who is very well liked and supposedly trusted. She completely shuts down to the people she is close including her best friend Beau. She decides not to go to college which her and Beau were planning to go together. Beau comes clean about his true feelings for Kate but she pushes him away. I really felt torn with this because you just expect that they are going to be together and I hate how Kate continued to push him away. You could really feel his feelings for her. At times it felt like Kate was just being selfish but I can understand what she was going through although I've never experienced that type of ordeal. The way the author writes is very clear and explains very well in detail .

When Asher comes into town and shows up at the diner that she works at, he feels drawn to her and it's not the love at first sight feeling either. He wants to be her friend and to see her smile again. Asher is the supposed bad boy in town and she is warned to stay away from him. But he doesn't make her talk about her past because he has demons of him own. You think you know about Asher and what he's about but I can guarantee you that you're wrong. Although I was totally drawn to Beau, Asher totally melted my heart with how he was with Kate. They formed a bond and he slowly chipped away the walls around her heart.

So anyways, this is a total gut-wrenching, soul searching, rip your heart out story. My throat closed up because I was sobbing so much so be prepared. A lot of people are like oh I can't read something like that, well I say suck it up because it truly is a beautiful story and although I would have changed some things toward the end, it is totally worth every minute.

Cheers,
  Holly
