Speak Easy by Melanie Harlow Book Review

July, 1923. The ‘20s are roaring, and twenty-year-old Tiny O’Mara is desperate for a little anything-goes excitement. But when her father is kidnapped by a mobster in Detroit’s exploding organized crime scene, she’s shocked to find herself caught up in the bootlegging wars of Prohibition—and torn between two gorgeous gangsters on opposite sides.

To save her father’s life, she’ll have to choose between them. But deciding whom to trust isn’t easy in a world where everyone wants something—be it booze, money, power, or sex—and no one cares what it takes to get it.

Temptation is everywhere.

Melanie Harlow likes her martinis dry, her lipstick red, and her history with the naughty bits left in. SPEAK EASY was inspired by her cocktail-culture obsession, her affection for good gin, and the view from the end of her street. She lifts her glass to NA readers and writers from her home near Detroit, MI.

I love a good historical romance and mrs Harlow drew me in from the opening pages with this one. I love a good mob story but also throw in country moonshine bootlegging, I was sold from the blurb on this one. Oh and also this one had a love triangle...fist pumps!!

This is Tiny's story. It's a story of a young woman's journey to fight for a better life but she always seems to get dragged back into the one she's running from. Is it wrong to want to be more than a bootleggers daughter? Well here dreams are put on hold after her father is kidnapped and held for ransom.

From this point on in the story mrs. Harlow gives her readers a taste of what the roaring 1920's underground scene  was really like from River boat smuggling, street gangs, THE MOB, etc... Tiny has to use her good looks and street smarts to pull this rescue off. As if her life isn't already on a downward spiral she has two men competing for her attention. Joey the annoying kid she grew up with, now turned hot street gang member. Then there's Enzo (the sheik) the hot son of the mobster holding her father hostage. Of what is a girl to do with two bad boys beating down her door? Well use it to her advantage duh , lol..

With all the twists and turns in this one I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. The hot sizzling chemistry and the action   Mrs. Harlow gave her readers in this one was awesome. Of course we know that in any love triangle there can only be one in the end. Honestly through out this one I kept switching teams, I was 50 percent team Joey and 50 percent team Enzo. Yup this house was divide throughout this whole book pretty much.  Just know tiny does has to chose and her choice isn't an easy one.

I loved this book and all the characters in it. Great job mrs. Harlow.

Cheers,
