Blurb:
What does it take to rise from life’s depths, swim against the current, and breathe?
Weighted down by the loss of her parents, Blythe McGuire struggles to keep her head above water as she trudges through her last year at Matthews College. Then a chance meeting sends Blythe crashing into something she doesn’t expect—an undeniable attraction to a dark-haired senior named Chris Shepherd, whose past may be even more complicated than her own. As their relationship deepens, Chris pulls Blythe out of the stupor she’s been in since the night a fire took half her family. She begins to heal, and even, haltingly, to love this guy who helps her find new paths to pleasure and self-discovery. But as Blythe moves into calmer waters, she realizes Chris is the one still strangled by his family’s traumatic history. As dark currents threaten to pull him under, Blythe may be the only person who can keep him from drowning.

I'm still a emotional wreck right now!!! Jessica park I love you. Your books always leave me with unforgettable stories that stick with me a year later. Anyone that knows me knows that flat out love by mrs. park is one of my favorite books and left me an emotional mess as well. This book was just as deep and emotional for me. Crap just get the tissues ready people.
This book begins with us being introduced to Blythe. Blythe is numb and has been in hiding from her past since the night her parents died. She uses alcohol and flirtation for coping. Her life changes the day her cup of coffee is stolen and she meets the Sheperd clan. A set of twins and a crazy theater loving brother. The big brother/father of this clan was Chris. The Sheperd clans past life was a mystery for majority of this book but their story was just as heart breaking as blythe's.
Chris/Blythe have a connection that neither of them can explain. You ever get that eerie feeling that you've met someone in a past life? That's the feeling of comfort these two had when together. The Sheperd's accepted Blythe as one of there own and for the first time in a long time Blythe had a sense of family. This dysfunctional Brady bunch gave Blythe her life back and a huge part of that was due to Chris.
Why can't there ever just be chocolates and roses??? If you think blythe's life story was rough. Get ready to break out the box of tissue because Chris Sheperd lived through what many wouldn't have survived. His demons ran deep and ofcourse instead of seizing the moment and letting Blythe love him he pushes her away. Ughhhh MEN!
Mrs. Park gave us the love story of Chris and Blythe yes but this book encompassed so much more. She gave her readers the love story of 2 families one torn apart by Tradgey and the other by abuse. I laughed, cried, laughed and cried some more with this book. There were times I wanted to strangle Chris/Blythe but their love was blessed by fate from the opening pages of this book. Their story was heart breaking and beautiful all wrapped in one. Please read this book. You won't be disappointed!
Great job mrs. Park as usual. I can wait to read more from you!!
Cheers,
