I love getting a book from an author I had never read and loving it! There are books that drive me crazy because they start all seeming the same, but the knowledge I will find that diamond in the rough keeps me testing the waters. And this one DEFINATELY had the originality factor!

We meet Chantel just before her 18th birthday, which removes her from the custody of the state and out of foster care. That alone made me love this book from the beginning! Chantel has had a rough upbringing but never gives up and makes sure she has the future she wants. She is so strong but has suffered nightmares since she was little and is still terrified. She had a shadow that she called Nick that made her feel safe. He never spoke and she thought he was a figment of her imagination, that is until he saved her life! Oh.... and his name is Mathias.
This story is about a world within our own that is so different I would love to see inside Allie's brain!
Nick/Mathias only shows his softer side around Chantel and their romance is slow growing but I like that better than wham, bam, thank you ma'am. Just the anxiety of wanting them together and knowing they will be really builds up emotions in me. I who wouldn't fall for the hott shadow guy who protects them!
There is romance, suspense, mystery, and action all bound up together for a thrilling read! You won't be able to put it down and become so invested in watching the characters develop.
