Georgiana Darcy’s Diary Vol II

This

A timeless classic for all ages!  As those of us who have come to know and love the characters from Pride and Prejudice.  Their journey continues through the eyes of Georgiana Darcy.  Fitzwilliam’s sister.  This continuation does not disappoint.  We’ve let them into our hearts from the beginning.  Have cried with them, laughed, shared their joys.

We continue Georgiana’s journey through her own words as we read her diary.  We first meet Georgiana in Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen as a shy 15 year old who has been raised by her brother Fitzwilliam Darcy after the passing of their father.

Georgiana opens her first entry for this volume on 21 June 1815 as she recounts that she has had no word of her beloved Edward. Not knowing if he is dead or alive being in the front of it all as one of Wellington’s aide’s – de – camp.  She speaks of her travels, the balls and parties thrown by her brother and his wife Elizabeth Bennett.

We watch Georgiana grow from the shy young lady to a woman caring for soldiers that have been wounded, her run in with Wickham as he demands money or will spread the wild fire of words about their near elopement when she was just of 15.

We witness her battle with Edward as she finally learns that he is alive and survived the Battle of Waterloo, thought with injury, he has lost his site.  A broken man in his eyes, he attempts to push Georgiana away, cancel their nuptials.  Standing her own and not giving in to him, she doesn’t leave. Instead she stays by his side, loving him just as she has since a child of 6.  As Edward comes to realize that she is not going anywhere he comes to accept his loss, and joins the world once again as they go on walks through town, the perils of the battle still in the streets and in the air.

Elizabeth and Darcy become parents.  The news joyous, Georgiana takes us through Elizabeth’s pregnancy, the difficulty her child has, the love shining through Darcy’s words and actions.

A timeless love, classic romance just as we expect.  Jane Austen would be proud of what those who have come after her, continuing Pride and Prejudice’s story and adventure of the characters we have all come to love.

Rating 5 stars

Cheers!
