Bound to Me by Jeannette Medina Book Review

A girl with nothing else to lose.
A life that’s brought nothing but pain.
A tattoo that’s more than what it seems.

Eighteen-year old Veronica has had enough. Her alcoholic mother has only delivered a slew of abusive step-fathers and life is only getting harder. What was to be a simple tattoo for her birthday brings more than she ever imagined.

Liam is a shape-shifting dragon. He lives on her shoulder, watching her, helping her. Having the dragon come to life and teaching her courage becomes a new lifeline for Veronica. But Liam will eventually become a permanent tattoo on her skin – never to take the shape of the protector she became attached to.

Will she embrace her life or will a broken heart shatter her soul forever?

Meet Veronica “Ronnie” a not so average 18 yr old whose father left her and her mother never to be seen or heard from again, her mother turns into an alcoholic and every step father brought home also such.  Then there is Ben, the latest in Step-fathers but he is different.  Not only is her an abusive alcoholic who doesn’t think twice about knocking Ronnie around, but he tries to sexually abuse her, passes, going through her stuff, touching them, comments.  Her mother is o no help, always drunk, or getting beaten by her husband Ben.  Ronnie gives up on her, grows up fast and takes life on full steam ahead.

Then it’s Ronnie’s birthday, she’s made it to 18, so she convinces her best friend Amber to go with her as she has finally saved up enough money from work and tips to get her another tattoo.  Amber’s fiancé Johnny suggests a place called Dominion.  With no luck at any of the places that’s exactly where they end up.  Devon, the tattoo artist suggests a dragon and so the ink begins.  Needless to say this tattoo is not your typical Dragon tattoo.  It comes to life.  It’s a magical dragon, a black dragon, protector and guardian. From that moment on, things are not the same for Ronnie, she learns that this dragon “Liam” can hear her thoughts, talk to her without speaking and best of all.  Oh yea, he can take human form and is absolutely HOT!

Everytime that Liam comes “off” her back to protect her or take human form she feels a burning pain.  She feels something for this dragon.  Can it be love?  She knows she wants him, no doubt there, but unbeknownst to her, their time is limited.  Each with a lesson to learn and neither can fathom what that lesson is for each of them.

Then one day after time has passed, her mom had finally got a restraining order on Ben he shows up out of nowhere, Ronnie is hurt and ends up in the hospital.  Ronnie finally has her mom back as well as her life but Liam is gone, their time is up.

This book will grab hold of you, like no other.  Forbidden love..being bound to what or who you can’t have.  You can feel the pain and loss Ronnie goes through, Olivia getting her life back on tract.  It’s a GREAT story.

Cheers,

Steph
