Because of You by Tara Sivec BOOK REVIEW

Goodreads Description:
Brady Marshall has made a career of playing it safe. When he decides to do something rash and becomes a Navy SEAL, he thinks he's finally escaped the rigid structure of the high society life his parents forced down his throat. All he does is trade in one set of rules for another. He follows military protocol to a T, but it still results in the death of an entire team of Navy SEALS and puts his best friends directly in harm's way. He’s struggled to stay afloat and not drown in grief, guilt, and booze, but he's losing that battle quickly. When his baby sister flees her abusive husband and shows up on his doorstep with his young niece in tow, he has no choice but to clean up his act. He will stop at nothing to protect them and never let them down again, even if it means taking a job that goes against everything he believes in. If protecting a pop star princess who thinks she's better than everyone means he can keep a roof over their head, what other choice does he have?

Layla Carlysle has lived a life of luxury. She's been a star since the young age of fifteen, and every record she releases shoots straight to the top of the charts. She has people surrounding her every single day telling her how amazing she is, how beautiful she is, and how lucky she is, but she’s never felt more alone in her entire life. She wants nothing more than to break free and do what she really wants to do: write her own music, sing her own songs, and find a way to finally be happy with her life. The only thing standing in her way is her mother, Eve Carlysle. Eve has controlled every single aspect of her daughter’s life and will stop at nothing to achieve fame and fortune, even if that means using her daughter to get there. When an overly-amorous fan’s letters become increasingly more sinister, Brady will have to suck up his opinion of how the other half lives to take the job seriously. The pair will need to learn to trust each other and put aside their differences before the letters become a reality and someone’s life is in jeopardy.

Brady has been to hell and back, and he refuses to let anyone else get close to him again. Layla has never lived her life for herself, and the emptiness is threatening to break her for good.

Sometimes our lives are already planned for us, but because of you, all of that could change in an instant.

Book Review:
Again it's no secret I'm a huge fan of Mrs. Sivec's books.  This is book 2 in her playing with fire series and as usual she never disappoints me.  This book can actually be read as a standalone if you ask me, however book 1 a beautiful lie is definitely worth the read!

This is Brady's story. It's one of hot bad boy alpha navy seals, mystery, drama, suspense, BIG GUNS, hot sex scenes, psycho killers, and betrayal just to name a few things. Amidst all the craziness in this story Mrs. Sivec still gives the reader a touching love story of two people who believe they aren't worthy of happiness (Brady & Layla).

Brady is a retired navy seal/cop turned PI. He is also a man that is wallowing in self pity and haunted by too many demons to count. His coping mechanism is the BOTTLE. Well thank goodness for feisty and loving I’ll kick your a** sisters. Gwen, I loved her character. She is Brady's younger sister and secretary. Her story is a heart breaking. It’s one of a battered woman's escape but as I was saying before she’s lol funny/feisty.  Well bills unfortunately have to be paid to run a business. Brady has no choice but to take on the job as bodyguard to one of the largest music sensations ever, LAYLA.  His thoughts went something like.... Great another spoiled rich girl with a silver spoon in her mouth....SMH!

Layla wasn't any of the above. She spent her whole life manipulated by her witch of a mother and alone. The one person in the world that loved/worshipped her died tragically. She grew up with the thought that her father never wanted her etc…….Heartbreaking......Seriously her mom was a WITCH!  Well what happens when you have a crazy psycho stalker? You hire a PI of course.

Brady and Layla's introduction was lol funny but trust me the chemistry was there. The banter between these two throughout this book was all over the place. Mrs. Sivec gave us sweet, feisty, a-hole, and downright loving at times moments.  The closer they grew the more complicated things became. To say they both were haunted by inner demons would be an understatement.
Regardless of the chemistry/emotions flowing there was the important fact a crazy psycho stalker was out on the loose. Oh ya THE JOB!

This book was filled with twists and turns. The BETYRAL in this one was off the charts.  I've heard of people killing for love but for a supposed BIRTH RIGHT, SMH! The secondary characters in this book I had a love and hate relationship with. Eve (layla's mom) HATED, June Loved her (she was more of a mother to Layla than her own one), Gwen LOL FUNNY (Loved her, despite her circumstances she never let them control her), Austin HOT/FUNNY (loved his character...needing his story in book 3 ASAP!) and Finn I honestly felt sorry for him (Layla's BFF/ bodyguard).  Layla/Brady's story was a good one. I was cheering for them both the whole time. While I enjoyed this book, Book 1 a beautiful lie is still my favorite of this series so far. This book definitely reminded me of the saying keep your friends close but your enemies closer.  BUT what happens when your friend is the enemy? Great job as usual Mrs. Sivec!  As if this book couldn’t get any better, Mrs. Sivec gave readers a taste of Book 3 from the playing with fire series at the end. I can’t wait to read AUSTIN’s story!

Here are a few of my favorite quotes:

"I never wanted anyone as much as you. I'm falling fast for you, and it scares the fucking shit out of me. I will do whatever it takes to change this life for you, to make it into something you can enjoy and not have to feel guilty about. “- Brady

"Your wrong you know. About what you said before. I'm not the one who made you stronger. You always had it inside you. It was always because of you."-Brady

Book rating: 4 stars/B
