Rouge by Leigh Moore BOOK REVIEW

Amazon Description:

QUARTER FINALIST---Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award, 2013

"A steamy page-turner with a love triangle, with sequins and feathers--oh, and deceit, blood, and poison." --5-Star Goodreads review

Romance, velvet, sequins, and murder...

Hale Ferrer is the rising star of the hottest cabaret in New Orleans. And her one goal is escape. Escape from the lies, from the crime, and from her growing fear that one day she'll have to earn her living in the secret back rooms, where the dancers do more than dance.

But she won't leave behind Teeny, the orphan-girl she promised to protect.

Freddie Lovel is rich, handsome, and in love with Hale, and he's ready to sweep her away with him to Paris. But her heart is captured by Beau, the poor stagehand with eyes as blue as Louisiana iris flowers.

Denying her fears, Hale is ready to choose love and a life with Beau, until a predator hidden in the wings launches a chain of events that could cost her everything--Teeny, their one hope of escape, and possibly even her life.

Book Review:

I'm ashamed to say I have had this book sitting on my kindle bookshelf for some time now. This was my first book by Mrs. Moore and let’s just say I was up till 2am finishing it. I'm kicking myself because I should have read this sooner. What drew me to this one was the blurb: love triangle, old school underground theater, and murder all set in New Orleans during the early 1900's.

This is Hales story. Hale has grown up in the underground New Orleans theater circuit her whole life. She is a beautiful talented singer. Her talent has also been what's helped her survive all this time. Having more than herself to think about, she makes a promise to love/protect an orphan girl she took in years ago named teeny. Hale has a rich admirer Freddie Lovel who is her ticket out of poverty and keeping her promise. However what hale doesn't count on happening is to fall in LOVE with beau faire the new stagehand.

I loved beau's character. He adored hale and would break his back to do anything for her. As I continue I read this story hales conflict of following her heart and using her head made me think of the saying “love doesn't pay the bills and money doesn't buy you happiness" . I honestly don't know what I would have done in Hales position.

Your probably wondering why was keeping her promise so important. Hales place of employment wasn't just a theater it was a brothel of sorts also. She was spared unlike so many because of the promise given to her mother on her Death bed.... But Teeny was becoming of age and the road to her future was looking dim.

The secondary characters in the book were great. I loved Roland hales BFF. There is nothing he wouldn't do for her including hide a body (I’m not joking!!!). This historical romance was one of pure raw emotion, forbidden love, friendship, secrets, lies, murder and downright survival. As I read my stomach was in knots. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. As I read the last page my heart broke and the water works began! Yes I'm a sap! I literally was screaming NOOOOOOOO! I need more of this story ASAP Mrs. Moore.

Great job Mrs. Moore on the start of a wonderful series!
